Top Social Media Platforms for Technology Companies

One of the key questions to be answered when developing your social media marketing plan is, “Where can I find my audience?” People have their choice of many major social media platforms, and finding which one(s) your customers are on is critical to maximizing your marketing efforts.

Nowspeed conducted extensive research on the social media campaigns of the top technology companies in all 50 states in the US. We’ve uncovered which platforms the industry leaders are using to drive business.

Among technology companies, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are the three most often used platforms. Of the top 100 companies reviewed for this post, 93% have a Facebook page, 90% have a Twitter account, and 97% have a LinkedIn profile. Only two of the top 100 companies had no active social profiles.

Worldwide, Facebook is by far the most popular social network, with over 2 billion active monthly users and nearly 215 million users in the United States alone. Twitter has 328 million worldwide active users (68 million in the U.S.) and LinkedIn has 106 global active users (30 million in the U.S.).

Accessing social media via mobile has rapidly become the preferred method of consumption. On Facebook, there are 1.15 billion mobile daily active users, which is an increase of 23% since 2016. 80%, or about 260 million, of all Twitter users access the platform via mobile. Every day, LinkedIn sees an average of 15 million profile views, 1.45 million job views and 44,000 job applications in over 200 countries through mobile. The popularity of mobile has implications for businesses. It is increasingly necessary for a company’s website to be optimized for mobile, since many people are navigating to there from their social accounts.

Nearly one-third of the world’s population and two-thirds of global internet users are on social media sites. Understanding where to find your audience will aid in boosting engagement with your messages. The industry leaders have utilized social media to great success and it is recommended that technology companies of all sizes implement social media into their marketing plan.
